Web store out of Nazi Cards

By | May 23, 2011

Finnish web store selling army gear has put out a funny item, a Nazi Card. And now they’re temporarily out of them. Hilarious.

Nazi Card refers to use of Nazis as an argument in a conversation. The very idea is also elaborated in Godwin’s law: “As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1 (100%).”. It’s usually considered that whoever puts a Nazi Card to table, loses the argument. In Finnish discussion about politics there’s been a lot of these cards at the table recently.

Slow-news-day.net would like to remind that while it is generally a good idea to avoid comparisons with Nazis on topics that don’t have anything to do with the actual politico-historical issue, referring to Nazis may well be appropriate, if talking about issues like eugenics or nationalism. You know, the stuff that was big in Nazi Germany. Not every comparison with Nazis should warrant a shouting out loud: Nazi Card!

If you still feel the inclination, you can check out this recent slow-news-day.net post on current Finnish politics, and decide if there’s a Nazi Card involved.
