Mindset of MP’s of Finnish Sisu

The Finnish populist party True Finns that gained 34 seats in the parliament election in April 17 are a mixed bag. However, one tight group within the party are the members of nationalist association Finnish Sisu (Suomen Sisu). They got four members elected in the general election: Jussi Halla-aho, James Hirvisaari, Olli Immonen and Juho Eerola. This signals a significant change in Finnish politics, because this is the first time the critics of multiculturalism break through as a group in general election. There are also others (if not all) in True Finns who speak in similar tones, but let’s focus on the members of Finnish Sisu.

So what is this bunch made of? They are active internet writers, especially on the immigration critical webforum hommaforum.org, so let them speak for themselves. The following are quotes from writings of these newly elected MP’s of Suomen Sisu in the Finnish parliament. They are picked because they are telling examples of mindset of these MP’s.

Juho Eerola wrote this on hommaforum.org 6 July 2010. The message isn’t there anymore, but can be found through Google:

I’m attracted to fascism, especially to economic policy practiced by Benito Mussolini. Entrepreneurship was encouraged, but it was strictly state controlled. Vital large enterprises were not allowed ownership by foreign investors, but were held firmly in own hands. Italy reached full employment and strong economic growth at that time. There’s lot to learn from that model. 1

Jussi Halla-aho on his Scripta blog’s guestbook replying to comments, 19 May 2006:

Frightening is just the fact that in the current media climate the police can not shoot bullets in the head of stone throwing human scum. The leftie hooligan itself has seen too many American movies and is just a jellywobble that falls by blowing.

And this:

I am of the same opinion exactly. What does a fish do? It swims. How does one stop fish from swimming? Put an end to its life. What does leftie hooligan do? Throws stones. How is leftie hooligan’s stone throwing discontinued? 2

James Hirvisaari wrote this to a blog on the Uusi Suomi -online magazine 12 December 2010, but the site removed it. Later it could be read on his election web page. It is neither there anymore. He refers here to the bombing in Stockholm, the capital of Sweden.

Terrorist attacks are the fault of flower hat ladies [note]. It seems only a matter of time before something blows up in Finland. The Muslims are really not to blame (what can they do with their madmen), neither the immigration critics (as easily accused), but multiculturalists who welcome riches and loveliness of Islam here, to far North. I say it directly: Multiculturalists are responsible for this terrorist attack too. The multiculturalists will also be responsible for terrorist attacks happening in Finland. It is collective fault of each multiculturalist. Multiculturalist, it is yours fault too. 3

Olli Immonen wrote on his website 6 June 2009:

Helsingin Sanomat reported (ie, raised their own opinion) 06/07/2009: “doorstep polls for Dutch EU elections predict what is feared throughout the spring: the success of extremist parties in parliamentary elections.”

What on earth extremist groups Helsingin Sanomat is raving about, and who has been afraid of success of these parties? Not me. I can honestly say that I’m very glad and happy for success of such as Geert Wilders’ Freedom Party’s in these elections. The daily paper clearly does not comply to accepting the idea that the party that has a different line than the paper (for example, immigration issues), could obtain public support and succeed in democratic elections. Through the news of Helsingin Sanomat shines through the anger and bitterness, which is very far from neutrality. 4

EDIT 26 April 2011: Corrected the mishap in the first sentence. True Finns gained 34 seats in the parliament, not 35 as the first sentence originally stated. They have 39 MP’s altogether.

Itseäni viehättää fasismi ja erityisesti Benito Mussolinin harjoittama talouspolitiikka. Yrittäjyyteen kannustettiin, mutta se oli tiukasti valtion kontrollissa. Elintärkeitä suuryrityksiä ei päästetty ulkomaalaisten sijoittajien omistukseen, vaan ne pidettiin tiukasti omissa käsissä. Italia saavutti noihin aikoihin täystyöllisyyden ja vahvan talouskasvun. Siitä mallista olisi paljon opittavaa.

2 Jussi Halla-aho vastasi kommenttiin Scripta-blogin vieraskirjassaan, 19. toukokuuta 2006:

Pelottavaa on vain se, että poliisi ei vallitsevassa mediailmapiirissä voi ampua luotia päähän kiviä nakkelevalle ihmissaastalle. Itse vasemmistohuligaanihan on vain liikaa amerikkalaisia elokuvia nähnyt hyytelötytinä, joka kaatuu puhaltamalla.

3 James Hirvisaari kirjoitti tämän blogissaan Uusi Suomi-verkkolehdessä 12. joulukuuta 2010, mutta sivusto poisti sen. Myöhemmin sen saattoi lukea hänen vaalisivullaan. Se ei ole enää sielläkään.

Terrori-iskut ovat kukkahattutätien syytä. Lienee vain ajan kysymys,
milloin myös Suomessa posahtaa. Varsinaisia syypäitä eivät ole muslimit (minkäs hulluilleen voivat) eivätkä mm-kriitikot (kuten helposti syytetään) vaan multikulttuurifiilit, jotka islamin rikkautta ja ihanuutta tänne peräpohjolaankin hinkuvat. Sanon sen suoraan: Mokuttajat ovat vastuussa tästäkin
terrori-iskusta. Mokuttajat ovat vastuussa myös Suomessa tapahtuvista

4 Olli Immonen kirjoitti kotisivullaan näin 6. kesäkuuta 2009:

Helsingin Sanomat uutisoi (ts. toi esille oman mielipiteensä) 7.6.2009: “Ovensuukyselyt Hollannin EU-vaaleista ennustavat sitä, mitä on pelätty pitkin kevättä: ääriryhmät menestyvät Euroopan parlamenttivaaleissa.”

Mistä ihmeen ääriryhmistä Hesari vauhkoaa, ja kuka näiden puolueiden menestystä on pelännyt? En minä ainakaan. Voin rehellisesti sanoa olevani hyvin iloinen ja onnellinen esimerkiksi Geert Wildersin Vapauspuolueen menestyksestä näissä vaaleissa. Hesari ei selvästikään suostu hyväksymään ajatusta siitä, että puolue, joka on Hesarin kanssa eri linjoilla (esimerkiksi maahanmuuttokysymyksissä), voisi saada kansalaisten tuen ja menestyä demokraattisissa vaaleissa. Hesarin uutisoinnista paistaa läpi viha ja katkeruus, josta puolueettomuus on hyvin kaukana.
